Bali is expecting a surge of Chinese tourists from 11 big cities in China to celebrate Imlek, Chinese New Year.
23,000 tourists are expected to welcome in the Chinese year of the monkey on 8 February in Bali. 6,000 seats have been booked so far.
The tourism ministry seems to be doing all its part to keep Chinese tourist numbers up and money flowing in by taking advantage of the Chinese holiday time. Indonesia has been marketing and promoting itself as a destination across Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, and Hong Kong.
Garuda Indonesia has announced new direct route to Shanghai to further penetrate the Chinese market, flying 3 times a week between the two cities. Beijing and Guangzhou are already serviced by Garuda.
